Terry Wiles, CDFA™ CRPC®, AWMA®
Branch Manager, RJFS
President, SGF

Terry began his career in the investment industry in 1995, while working for a large Wall Street investment firm. It was there he began envisioning a new kind of wealth management firm - one without the conflict of interest that comes from investment banking departments and sales quotas. A place where non-commissioned financial planning and investment management would be the centerpiece of the relationship and individuals would be the only clients served; not large corporations or governments. A vision of an independent practice with the highest quality advisors focused exclusively on helping clients toward their life goals and dreams. Terry's vision became a reality in 2005.

Growing up in a household of six, with his father a mill worker and his mother a church secretary, Terry understands the value of hard work and saving for the future. He enjoys helping families plan for a financially stable future in which they can comfortably retire and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Knowing that change can be difficult for most, Terry finds particular satisfaction in guiding individuals through transitions that impact one's finances, be it the loss of a loved one, a job change, the decision to retire, or even a divorce.

His education has helped provide many tools to help others succeed in working toward their financial goals. He is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania; received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Oneonta, with a double major in economics and finance; and also attended the College for Financial Planning and the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, obtaining certifications as a Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM, an Accredited Wealth Management AdvisorSM and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst.

Terry and his wife Becky have been married since 1995 and have two children, Kevin and Kelly. When Terry is not chasing Kevin around the golf course or shagging volleyballs for Kelly, he enjoys traveling with his family, assisting local charities, cycling, golfing, fly fishing and anything outdoors. He finds solace in the beauty of the great Rocky Mountains, hence the images surrounding our brand.

Ryan Smith, CFP®, RICP®, MSFP
Financial Advisor

Ryan began his career in 2005 as an intern at an independent financial planning firm outside of Boston, Mass., while pursuing his Master of Science in Financial Planning degree at Bentley University. During this time, Ryan's eyes were opened to the absence of financial knowledge that exists across all generations as well as the vital need for creating and continuously monitoring a personalized, flexible, comprehensive financial plan. Drawing on personal experiences, Ryan recognizes the importance of having a trusted advisor, someone who can speak truth in challenging situations while serving as an objective third party.

  1. Are preparing for retirement and searching for the answer to the question: “Will I make it?”
  2. Are experiencing a significant life transition and need guidance with the many different financial moving parts. Examples are pensions, stock options, 401(k)s and severance agreements
  3. Have suddenly found themselves in charge of the finances upon the loss of a spouse or significant other, and would like help moving forward
  4. Are wondering how to create a retirement income strategy that accounts for inflation while working to minimize taxes and maximize existing sources of income, including Social Security claiming strategies.
  5. Are young professionals looking to create a plan that balances the need for financial freedom in their 60's, 70's and 80's with the desire for travel, raising a family, and living in the present

Ryan gives back to his community by serving on the board of House of Hope, which seeks to bring healing and change to hurting teenage girls and their families. Also, motivated by his passion for financial education, Ryan approached Gordon College, where he received degrees in accounting and business administration, about starting a personal finance course. He created and taught this course for one year before moving to Raleigh.

He has been a Certified Financial Planner™ professional since 2009, and earned his Retirement Income Certified Professional designation in 2015.

Ryan is originally from the North Shore of Massachusetts and now resides in Raleigh, N.C., with his wife, Emily, son, Jack, and daughter, Gwen. He is passionate about sports, exercise, a warm cup of coffee and a good book. He loves to travel and has participated in mission trips that have taken him to six different countries on four different continents. Apart from the 11-month period in which he met, became engaged to and married his wife, he would count the year he took off from college to serve in the Dominican Republic as the greatest of his life. He and his family are members of Church of the Apostles in North Raleigh.
